Gearing Up For Cisco exam # 642-661configuring BGP on cisco routers

I am preparing for the CISCO BGP exam # 642-661. I have read " Internet Architectures" by Sam Halabi. I must say it is a very good book. I have also read the BGP part in " Routing TCP/IP" Vol II by Jeff Doyle and Caroll. Hope to get registration for the exam in a couple of day for the next 1-2 days.

  1. I started reading the bgp part in Routing TCP/IP, CCIE professional Development book. After that i read the " Internet Architectures" by Sam Halabi. I have been working extensively at BGP on my job so i have a good idea about it. So recently like 2 days ago i picked up a brian dump from my friend and i am trying to equip my self against the tricking language and the tricky presentation of the questions in the exam.

  2. BGP route selection criteria that i could not memorize so i created a short cut for myself.

N - Ignore route with inaccessible next hop
    W - Prefer more weight
L - Prefer high Local Preference
L - Prefer locally originated routes.
A - Prefer shortest AS path
O - Prefier lowest Origin code
    M - prefer lowest med
E - prefer EBGP routes over IBGP
C - Prefer route reachable via closest neighbor
R - Router ID is the tie breaker

SO the key to BGP Router Selection criteria is:
    NWLLAOMECR

    Happy BGP:)

  3. Alas, Passed the CCIP BGP exam on 1st december 2010. Easy exam but there is a lot to BGP than this exam. So i plan to keep reading Internet Architecture by Sam Halabi.
